Elizabeth McKenney

Religious Studies; Junior Fellow

Elizabeth (Beth) McKenney is a fourth year PhD student in Religious Studies. She hails from central Kentucky where she grew up on her beloved family tree farm.

Beth received her MA from Union Theological Seminary in the City of New York where she studied social ethics in a progressive Christian context. At the University of Virginia, she has continued her studies of Christian ethics as they relate to gender and sexuality in our contemporary world. Her work uses the sexual purity movement as a jumping off point for thinking about questions of relationality, social structures, and personal virtue.

Her research is sort of about sex, but really about how we can and should all be kinder and braver.
