Katie Wu

Junior Fellow

Katie Wu is a third year PhD student in the History Department, where she takes an interdisciplinary look at political movements for reparations starting in the late 19th century United States. Her research interests include the history of petitioning within Asian American and African American communities, exploring questions of citizenship, race, and strategies for redress. Katie holds a B.A. from Harvard's History and Literature department (2017). 

 

Katie also works on a range of public history projects including oral history interviewing and archiving to document the history of environmental racism in Hampton Roads, Virginia. Between 2019 and 2022, Katie worked for the Equal Justice Initiative and served on the curatorial team for the expansion of the "Legacy Museum: From Enslavement to Mass Incarceration" in Montgomery, Alabama. Outside of her academic interests, she participates in community theater here in Charlottesville and enjoys hiking and camping with her dog in Shenandoah.
